Quick answer
How can I make my Firestick faster?
Free up storage, turn off background data collection and home-screen autoplay, restart the Stick weekly, and power it from the mains adapter. An Ethernet adapter helps most with live sport and 4K.
Already set up? These tweaks help an older or busy Fire TV Stick feel quicker. If you have not installed the service yet, start with the IPTV Firestick setup guide.
Free up storage
Uninstall apps you no longer use and delete old installer files from the Downloader app. Sticks slow down noticeably when storage is nearly full.
Turn off background data
Under Settings → Preferences → Privacy Settings, switch off device usage data and app usage data. Under Preferences → Featured Content, turn off video and audio autoplay on the home screen.
Restart once a week
Settings → My Fire TV → Restart clears memory and often fixes sluggish menus.
Use the right power and connection
- Plug the Stick into the mains adapter, not a TV USB port.
- Use Amazon’s Ethernet adapter for 4K and live sport.
- Use the included HDMI extender if your Wi-Fi signal is weak behind the TV.
